Whole house filters aren't for drinking water
We're asked daily for a whole house option. We get it. It would be nice to have Atla Water at every tap in the house. The problem is, even if we made a whole house system, it wouldn't be Atla Water coming out of those taps.
You see, Atla Water has special properties that are lost when it travels through the pipes to your faucet. This is also why bottled spring water has lost most of its vitality. Pumps and common pipes create flat-tasting water.
We invested heavily in the development of a whole house Atla system without success. It simply isn't possible to create amazing water, then send it through your home's pipes, and have it still be amazing at the tap.
To get the best-tasting water, it has to be created right before you drink it.
Whole house filters don't create healthful drinking water
Chemicals are added to water to keep it from growing bugs that can make you sick. It's best to leave those chemicals in until right before you drink it. When you remove them from every tap in the house, your home's pipes can become a breeding ground.
Boutique hotels are infamous for Legionnaires' disease outbreaks. Many of them remove the chemicals to provide a more spa-like shower experience. Bugs begin to flourish in the pipes of the hotel and the patrons are infected.
Speaking of pipes, it's not just iron pipes that leach metals into water. Copper is also a problem as everyone has far too much copper in their diet already. (In fact, while copper is considered the 'premium' material of choice for home piping, PEX piping is the best for health.) If you aren't filtering your water at the point of use, all the metals from your home piping are in your drinking water even if your whole house filter removes metals.
Premium drinking water is foundational to a life without compromise
We're not down on whole house filtration. In fact, we're big fans of chemical-free showers. However, whole house filters can never guarantee safe drinking water. And they can't produce anything near the experience of drinking Atla Water.
